APRIL 2026

Inspiring Future Innovators, Builders & Problem-Solvers

What does the future of construction look like—and who will build it? Can we solve the world’s housing shortage and climate crisis?

On April 22nd, we celebrated the launch of Building Homes for All: Technology for a Fair and Green Planet. I had the privilege of presenting the book to middle-grade students, teachers, families, and industry professionals—sparking STEAM curiosity and showcasing the breadth of opportunities in a rapidly transforming construction industry.

Students from McMurrich Junior Public School and Sir Ernest MacMillan Senior Public School at the Toronto District School Board experienced the future firsthand at Northcrest's YZD Experience Centre—exploring a 3D model of Toronto’s future city and sustainable development. They were introduced to cutting-edge technologies such as robotics, 3D construction printing, and mass timber, which are reshaping the industry. Hands-on challenges like designing lunar greenhouses and building propulsion racers brought STEAM learning to life.

In the evening, families took part in hands-on building activities, while industry leaders shared insights on education pathways, workforce diversity, and connecting youth to meaningful careers in construction and the skilled trades. Wow! What an engaging and important discussion!

An automation revolution is underway in construction—creating exciting, meaningful STEAM career opportunities! Events like this matter. They connect industry, educators, and families to help young people see what’s possible.

In a LinkedIn post and video, Senior business leader Danielle Feidler discusses the importance of exposing middle-grade students, their families, and teachers to career opportunities in construction and the skilled trades. By high school, it's too late! Not only is this a problem for students, but it's also a problem for the future of the construction industry. Danielle praised the book and launch event for being an important step forward in inspiring the next generation. Huge thanks to Danielle for this recognition and for continuing this important discussion. Check out her post!
